Timur Bekmambetov

Timur Bekmambetov (*1961) was born in Guryev (Kazakhstan) and studied theater and film at the Ostrovsky Theater Institute in Tashkent. His film career began with the production of advertising films and the founding of the company Bazelevs Group. For his film debut (1991) "Peshavar Waltz" about the Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s, he was awarded “Best Director” at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary. His breakthrough, however, came in 2004 with ”Night Watch" as well as the sequel ”Day Watch". Both productions are among the most successful Russian films of all time. With Wanted (2007) he was able to establish himself as a director in Hollywood. The film starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy made a worldwide turnover of $ 342.4 million. For films like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunters and Hardcore he was also celebrated as a producer. Overall, his films made about about $ 624.7 million in turnover worldwide. Bekmambetov lives and works in Los Angeles.
